Greenwich, Connecticut (September 11, 2025)  The Bailiwick Club, a private racquets, swim and social club in Greenwich, CT, has broken ground on the largest renovation project in the property’s 50-year history. The scope includes complete replacement of the club’s original swimming pool, along with significant upgrades to outdoor dining and social areas.

Founded in 1972 by Peter Malkin and Bruce Warwick, The Bailiwick Club was created as the first non-restrictive swim and tennis club in Greenwich, welcoming all residents regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status. Malkin and Warwick aimed to build an inclusive and affordable space for families in lower Fairfield County. Over the past 50 years, generations of members have learned and competed in swimming and tennis, with some advancing to collegiate teams and even the Olympic trials. Many of those early members have returned with their own children, now forming a third generation of Bailiwick families.

The groundbreaking ceremony, hosted by Bailiwick’s Board of Governors and General Manager Greg Meyer, and attended by First Selectman Fred Camillo and Representative Tina Courpas, marked the conclusion of a successful 2025 season, which featured new programs, membership initiatives, and a dynamic lineup of social events. Construction, scheduled for completion by the May 2026 season opening, includes a new 25-meter, six-lane pool with an upgraded diving well, a learn-to-swim area, and a social lane for casual use. The redesign will support continued competition in the Fairfield County Swim League and opens the door for a future Water Polo team. A new year-round dining space is also being added, further enhancing the member experience and building on recent club improvements like pickleball programs and paddle court lighting.

“On behalf of the Board, we’re absolutely thrilled to see this long-anticipated groundbreaking become a reality,” said David Fink, President of the Board of Governors at The Bailiwick Club. “It couldn’t come at a better time, as we celebrate a thriving membership and the success of the 2025 season. This exciting new chapter will build on that momentum and help shape the future of the Club for years to come.”

The project holds personal meaning for those involved. Bill Drakeley, one of Connecticut’s top pool builders, is reconstructing the same pool his grandfather built, making this a multi-generational project for his family. At Clark Construction, owner Tim Clark is working alongside his son Noah, who is managing construction on site. That generational connection reflects the spirit of the club itself, as Bailiwick continues to grow while staying rooted in community, athletics, and family tradition.

The Club has partnered with Greenwich Bank & Trust, a proud division of CT Community Bank, on the project. For detailed renderings, visit: www.thebailiwickclub.com/pool-renovation-project
